It's that time of year when babies are growing up enough that they're beginning to wander about in the world.  Mostly we're seeing fawns and turkey poults.  It's always a wondrous surprise to come across these creatures.  Driving slowly down the country roads (Rebecca says that I rarely exceed 25 m.p.h. on the back roads, and she doesn't do much better when she's driving) fawns seem to appear to us almost every day.  They step delicately onto the pavement, often accompanied by their mother, and usually stop to stare at the car.  In most cases we honk to give them the message that cars and roads are scary, bad places, but if they're on the roadside, sometimes we can't help ourselves and we'll just stop and stare back.

We watched each other for a long while . . .

Perhaps it's simply that all of our time isn't taken up doing the Renaissance Faire this summer, but it seems like the world is more beautiful this year.  We find ourselves captured more and more often by the delights of nature.  Billowing clouds and fluorescent blossoms and innumerable fireflies dancing on the night air.  Lightning storms and turtles sliding into the water and berries ripening on the vine.  Deep forests and bright falling stars and jewel-like beetles.

How marvelous it all is!
