July 27th, 2009    A Friend for Our Animal Friends

         Lovely blossoms captured by Amanda.
We were down to New Glarus again this weekend for 2012 Devolution movie rehearsals.  For some people, going away from home for a few days might not seem like such a big deal, but here at Sweetwater, we share our lives with a lot of animals -- the dogs and cats, the fish and snakes, and now, of course, the chickens.  When you have animal friends, it takes a very special sort of friend to keep them company while you're gone.  That's why we feel pretty lucky to have met Amanda.

She first came in to our lives through belly dance, but now she's become a good friend.  And whenever we leave Sweetwater, she is ready to come and make this her second home.  She never asks for anything (though we always try to leave her with some fun gifts), but instead makes us feel like we're doing her a favor!  She leaves sweet letters telling us how much she enjoyed being out in the country, how fun the walks were, and how much she liked the chickens.  She's left photos she took of the stream as well as the local flora and fauna, and this time she bequeathed us a jar of raspberry jam she made with the berries she picked on our property.  She even felt at-home enough that she had her mother out to visit!

It's tough to come by friends like this.  Friends who can turn a request around on you and make you feel like you're giving when you're really asking.  Lucky us

As for 2012 Devolution, rehearsals went great.  This was the first time blocking out scenes on film, and it was fun to watch people on camera.  It also looks like I might get to be a 'monster' after all, in addition to my other role!  Talk about the ultimate Halloween costume . . .
