Dissolving Clouds
This has got to be one of the funnest things to do with a summer
afternoon. Find one of those days when you have some good, fluffy clouds
in the sky that are drifting along quite lazily. The game? Dissolving
clouds.
A perfect day for a little dissolving
fun.
As far as we know, Richard Bach first talked about this in his book
Illusions.
Curious, we went outside and tried it for ourselves. After trying this
numerous times, we’ve come to the rather startling conclusion that it
really works.
Here’s what you do--
Lay down and find a small cloud to dissolve. To dissolve it, sort of stare
at it and don’t try to force anything. Just see more blue behind it. Let
your vision softly blur (don’t force this, just let your vision
ease off focus) for a little bit, and then bring it back to focus to see
if your cloud is shrinking. In a few minutes, you should be able to make
it disappear.
But wait. Clouds are shrinking and growing all the time! How do you know
that your cloud wasn’t going to shrink anyway? Time to put things to the
test. Try to shrink your cloud down to about a quarter of the size it
first was, and then reverse it. Grow that cloud! This is done in the same
way, except that you softly see more white. It’s usually easier to make
them grow. Just feel the cloud expanding. If you can make it shrink and grow at will,
then you’ll have a good reason to question your current version of
reality!
And heck, even if it’s just a case of overactive imaginations, it’s a
great excuse to lay out in the sun and watch clouds. What’s better
than that?
